Ginger Cake


8 oz (227 grams) Self raising flour

1½ Teaspoons of baking powder

3 Tablespoons syrup

3 oz (85 grams) Margarine

¼ Teaspoon of salt

1 Egg

3 oz (85 grams) Sugar

¼ pint (142 millilitres) of warm milk

1 Teaspoon of ginger

Warm the sugar, margarine and syrup. Add egg beaten in warm milk. Mix all dry ingredients together thoroughly. Bake in a moderate oven for about 1 hour on gas mark 3 (325°F, 160°C) although Mother says ½ hour is plenty!
